I had the most wonderful stay at Barry’s place in December. Barry was incredibly helpful in the lead up to my stay, providing me with information about the ferries, assisting me to plan the length of my stay, and providing me with recommendations for Dili. The accomodation itself was beautiful and right on the beach, and a short walk from where the ferry gets in. Bathroom facilities are simple (no running water for showering) but very clean and practical. All three meals are included in the cost of your stay, which works very well with limited food options around. Barry was able to assist with booking snorkelling through local boats and transport on the island. The snorkelling in the reef outside of the accommodation was absolutely beautiful, the best snorkelling of my life! I loved my stay and will definitely return one day!

17 bungalows in a nice garden. Good mosquito net with small fan inside that you hardly need as fresh air enters from windows. Hammocks on each veranda. Shared huge shower space with bucket, there are 5 common bathrooms in the compound. Excellent wifi. Very quiet. Very clean. Good food with plenty of veggies and fruits but sadly very seldom fish : out of 9 meals I had it only twice. I stayed 4 nights. Excellent info and advices by Aussie owner Barry who built a real gem out of scratch during 20 years. As the reef is quite far, you'd better walk 15 minutes past the jetty towards Atauro Dive Resort or Compass as the swim from the shore in front of these two resorts is not long.

Wonderful Resort With Exceptional Care This resort is absolutely amazing. It’s peaceful, beautifully clean, and truly focused on ecology. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing, and the owner is incredibly helpful — you feel taken care of from the moment you arrive. Everything is well-maintained, calm, and full of positive energy. A perfect place to rest and recharge. Highly recommended!

We loved Barry's Place! The whole set up is amazing, from the gorgeous tropical huts so close to the beach, the buffet style meals and extra food that recognises how hungry you get when snorkeling and diving, to the eco friendly set up, the focus on digital decompression, access to the reef and to Barry who is the hub of everything and font of all knowledge. A brilliant spot that epitomises community, helping people to grow, and holding space for the future. We'll be back!

I stayed here from 16–17 September 2025. Barry’s Place is a truly wonderful and natural getaway. The atmosphere is peaceful, and it feels very close to nature. The food was excellent – all meals are included in the price, and the lunch was definitely the highlight for me. The sunrise on the morning of 17 September was absolutely breathtaking – one of the best I’ve ever seen. One area that could be improved is the toilet facilities. Shared is perfectly fine, but having a more proper setup would make the stay even more comfortable. Overall, highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy the beauty and simplicity of Atauro with great food, warm hospitality, and stunning views.
