Mysaffy Atauro Island Adventures & Backpackers is an independent adventure crew on Atauro Island, 25 kilometres and a ferry ride north of Dili, based in Beloi a hundred metres from Atauro port. Atauro sits at the heart of the Coral Triangle, with the Wetar Strait (the Cetacean Highway) out front, and in 2016 Conservation International recorded an average of 253 reef fish species per survey site around the island. Our own experienced Timorese team runs scuba diving across more than 20 dive sites, guided snorkel trips, whale and dolphin tours, ridge hikes up Mount Manucoco, kayak mornings and cultural walks. Fares $4 to $5 one way. Tickets are sold for cash at the port on the day, so arrive early.
MAF light aircraft

Flights back from Atauro leave Monday 08:10, Wednesday 10:40 and Friday 17:10.
About 20 minutes from Dili. Book directly with MAF Timor-Leste, and reserve early because seats are limited.
Private boat
$70-$75 per person one way
Run by the lodges (Compass, Atauro Dive Resort, Beloi Beach Hotel). A private charter starts at about $200 an hour. Arrange it when you book.
No ferry sails on Monday, in either direction.
The boat back from Atauro reaches Dili in the early evening, too late for a same-day flight to Darwin. Plan your last night in Dili.

Good to know before you book
- How do I get to Atauro Island for my tour? Day activities start and end on Atauro Island, and you take the ferry from Dili yourself. Ferries run every day except Monday, leaving Dili at 08:00 and leaving Atauro at 15:00. The Berlin Nakroma takes about 2 hours 15 minutes (USD 4) and the MV Success about 3 hours (USD 5), cash at the port. Packages include your ferry ticket and pickup at Beloi pier.
- What equipment is included for snorkeling and diving? For snorkeling, equipment including life jackets is provided. For diving, all equipment is included in the price.
- Stay with Mysaffy: a bed in the backpackers hostel is USD 18 per person per night and a private room is from USD 35 per night, without meals.
- If you travel on your own, you buy the ferry ticket at the port on the day you travel.
How late you can book: Book by 3pm the day before you arrive (Dili time).
