We had the absolute best experience staying with Estevao, Lourdes and their family. I wish I could give more stars because they deserve it! We were so well taken care of in their beautiful home and the food was amazing! They were so generous in taking the time to help us learn more Tetum and learn more about the Timorese way of life. They also ensured we would have the next experience on Atauro helping us with advice and connections. We were also very lucky that they invited us into a community new years celebration, Mana Lourdes even let me borrow an outfit of hers for the occasion! It was a wonderful experience. Loved it, thank you!

An absolutely exceptional stay at Estevão’s Homestay on Atauro Island. From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed like a member of the family. Estevão and his family are incredibly kind, generous, and genuinely warm people. The homestay is simple, very clean, comfortable, and perfectly immersed in local life. The home-cooked meals are delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and shared in a friendly, heartfelt atmosphere. Staying here allows you to truly experience the culture of Atauro, far from mass tourism. The location is perfect to enjoy the ocean, world-class snorkeling, and breathtaking landscapes. The peace, natural beauty of the island, and the genuine care of the hosts make this experience truly unforgettable. If you are looking for more than just accommodation — a real, human, and meaningful experience — Estevão’s Homestay is without a doubt the best place to stay on Atauro Island. Highly recommended, and I would return without hesitation.

Estevao and Lourdes homestay on Atauro is a stunning place to stay. Situated in the middle of Beloi and village life, if you want an authentic Timorese experience I couldn’t recommend this place more highly. Estevao is a keen local spearfisherman. Whilst staying at his house we went out on the reef with him to catch some lunch. If you are a freediver The experience was awesome and really eye opening about how the people here in Atauro are deeply connected to the reef as they rely on it as subsistence fishers. Cheers Estevao for a lovely time !

Great breakfast and dinner - Great rooms (fans and comfy beds) - excellent location to enjoy the Beloi reefs! Estavao and his family were so kind, inclusive and helpful. Estevao, Lourdes and their boys are beautiful humans who were kind enough to bring us along to community events, support with our Tetum studies and provide crucial advice to see the island independently and respectfully. Can’t wait to go back!
