Overview

Atauro Dive Resort sits on the beach at Beloi, a short walk from the ferry pier, and is built around diving. It is a PADI dive centre with its own boat, instructors and equipment rental, and the house reef runs straight off the beach. Conservation International recorded the world’s highest reef-fish diversity on this coast.

Accommodation is a handful of sea-view bungalows, garden rooms and a small mixed dormitory. As of 2026 the nightly rate includes all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) cooked at the resort, with vegetarian and vegan options on request. WiFi is reliable and the power runs 24 hours, which is not a given on Atauro.

In October and November the resort runs whale tours in the Wetar Strait. These are snorkel-only, with a maximum of four people in the water at a time. Those two months are the busiest of the year and the island books out months in advance.

This is a remote island with one bar. people come for the reef, not the nightlife. There is no ATM on Atauro, so bring US dollars in cash for dives, courses and anything else you add on once you are there.

Atauro is 25km north of Dili, accessible by ferry or light aircraft.

    Monday 07:30, Wednesday 10:00 and Friday 16:30 · $80 one-way

    Flights back from Atauro leave Monday 08:10, Wednesday 10:40 and Friday 17:10.

    About 20 minutes from Dili. Book directly with MAF Timor-Leste, and reserve early because seats are limited.

  • Private boat

    $70-$75 per person one way

    Run by the lodges (Compass, Atauro Dive Resort, Beloi Beach Hotel). A private charter starts at about $200 an hour. Arrange it when you book.

No ferry sails on Monday, in either direction.

The boat back from Atauro reaches Dili in the early evening, too late for a same-day flight to Darwin. Plan your last night in Dili.

We love this place so much💚💚💚 Good people passionate about ocean run this place💙We stayed here for 5 days and went snorkeling with the blue 🐳 whales two times! This is fantastic experience! We are beyond grateful for Atauro Dive Resort making our dreams come true🙏 Also we enjoyed food here very much, lots of vegetarian food and fish, it was delicious. Atmosphere is calm and relaxed, good vibes only! We will definitely stay here again!

The room accommodation was very nice and comfortable despite no a/c. The staff was super polite and professional. Amy made sure we were enjoying ourselves and had what we needed. Saw some amazing fish and the clams were absolutely gorgeous.

What a gem! From the lonely ocean front bungalows to the delicious family style meals we enjoyed every minute. We made 18 amazing scuba dives at the reefs with the highest level of biodiversity in the world. The staff is amazing above and below the waves. I can't wait to return!

Had a great experience here with both the lodge and the diving.. The lodge, although basic, as was expected, was sufficient and we had everything we needed for a good nights sleep, even a roster to let us know morning was on its way, but not continue. The diving was next level and had some really unique dives. Jango the main dive master was flexible and happy to go with the flow with 2 experienced divers being guided around. The owners have also managed to build a nice environment and team to make our stay enjoyable and dinners were always nice. Thanks team. Would recommend and will return for some world class diving.

Fabulous /world class / mind blowing diving, well maintained equipment, friendly staff. Recommend prioritising the morning dives and snorkel or relax in the afternoon, unless you take a bike or tuk tuk. Vollker the owner was a character and a half, really liked him. Local dive guide was the best. No frills beach huts 🛖 and good breakfast. The diving just a short swim off the house reef is sublime.
