Tour de Timor: travel for riders
Tour de Timor is Timor-Leste’s multi-day mountain bike race. Past editions started and finished in Dili, with riders camping along the route, so the nights to book are in Dili before the start and after the finish.

Stay in Dili before and after the race
In past editions, riders left their camping gear at a drop-off point in Dili the night before the start. Book Dili for that night and for the night you finish.

Getting you and your bike there
Add the bike to your flight
Airlines carry a bike box as special baggage. Add it when you book the flight, not at the check-in desk.
Book a transfer that fits a bike box
Ask for a 4WD or a minivan when you book the airport transfer, so you, your bike box and your gear go in one trip.
Expect rough roads
Much of the route in past editions ran on 4WD-only dirt roads and broken bitumen. Mechanics at each stage finish had spare parts in limited supply, so bring your own.
tourdetimor.comCheck your entry rules
Many passports get a visa on arrival or visa-free entry. Check the rules for yours before you fly.
After the finish
Stay a few days to see the country without the race clock: the reefs of Atauro, Jaco Island in the far east, or Baucau’s old town.

Common questions
When is the next Tour de Timor?
Tour de Timor ran every year from 2009 to 2018. The organisers have not published the date yet. It will appear on the official site and on this page.
Where does Tour de Timor start?
Past editions started and finished in Dili. In 2018 the race headquarters was Timor Lodge, near the airport.
Do riders need a hotel during the race?
Not in past editions. Riders slept at race campsites, and the organisers trucked tents and gear between them. You need Dili nights before the start and after the finish.
How do I get from Dili airport to my hotel with a bike?
Pre-book an airport transfer and ask for a 4WD or a minivan so the bike box fits. The airport is 6 km west of central Dili.
Race details are from the organisers’ site, tourdetimor.com. Check it for anything that changes.
