The deepest course catalogue in the country: Discover Scuba, Open Water, Adventure, Rescue, Sidemount, Specialty and a full 28-day Divemaster. Dili-based, so you dive the north-coast sites (K41, Dili Rock, Tasi Tolu) between classroom sessions.
Tradeoff: Only 30 Google reviews, a small sample despite the 5.0 rating. It is a Dili operation, so Atauro trips are day trips, not a doorstep.
Best for boat diving

The established Atauro operation and the most-reviewed dive business in the country. Dive the house reef straight off the beach, or take the 2-tank morning boat out to the wall sites that gave Atauro its reef-fish record.
Tradeoff: You are committing to Atauro: the public ferries sail six days a week but only return at 15:00, so this is a multi-night trip, not an afternoon out of Dili.
Best value snorkelling
$5 per person
Ride the dive boat as a snorkeller and swim the same walls the divers are on. At $5 it is the cheapest way to see the Coral Triangle at its best.
Tradeoff: You are on the divers’ schedule and the divers’ sites: no snorkel-specific briefing or shallow-water hand-holding.
Best all-in package
4-Day Atauro Dive Escape $690 · 4.8★
If you would rather not assemble ferries, lodges and dive days yourself, Island Explorer packages the whole Atauro trip, and a 7-day national itinerary that takes in the reefs, the highlands and Dili.
Tradeoff: You pay for the coordination. Booked piece by piece the same days cost less; you are buying someone else doing the logistics.
Best for whales and snorkelling

An Atauro operation running its own boats and its own guides across 20+ sites, a hundred metres from the Beloi pier. Diving, snorkel trips, whale and dolphin trips in season and the Manucoco ridge hike all come from the same team, and so do the beds, from an $18 hostel bunk to $35 private rooms, with the boat from Dili and the pier pickup included.
Tradeoff: Guided diving rather than a dive school: we hold no course certifications on record, so if you want an Open Water card start with Dreamers. No Google rating yet either, and replies have averaged a couple of days.
