Hotel Umaliurai (also written Uma-Liurai or Ria Uma-Liurai) is a family-run hotel on the southern side of Same, the mountain town that is the seat of Manufahi municipality. It is one of the best-reviewed stays in the south, and a natural stop on the way from Dili to the south coast at Betano or into the Mount Kablaki range.
The hotel is built around a swimming pool with a rock waterfall, one of very few pools outside Dili, with guest wings and thatched pavilions around it. Rooms are simple and clean; most are air-conditioned and most have their own bathroom. Breakfast is included, and dinner is served in the dining room by the pool: order it when you check in.
Same sits at roughly 400 metres above sea level, with cooler nights than the coast, and gives easy access to Mambai villages, river walks, coffee gardens and the town’s Portuguese-era buildings. The hotel can arrange trekking guides for Mount Kablaki and the surrounding ridgelines.
